New Androgen Receptor Drug: Kintor Pharmaceuticals

It’s always pleasing to learn of new companies who are developing drugs to treat hair loss. The more companies there are in the pipeline, the greater the chances are for success. Kintor Pharmaceuticals of China is the latest company to enter the global pharma market of alopecia treatments.

Kintor Pharmaceuticals Pipeline

There are two listed androgen receptor (AR) antagonist drugs listed in Kintor’s pipeline chart.

Atop the list of Kintor’s pipeline is an androgen receptor antagonist called proxalutamide. It is a 2nd generation AR antagonist being tested for the indications of prostate cancer and breast cancer. Proxalutamide has reached a phase 3 trial in China for prostate cancer. It is currently being developed in oral pill form. Although this drug is not being targeted for hair loss, any AR receptor drug will catch the attention of the hair science community due to the fact that androgen hormones (DHT) and androgen receptors are thought to be the core mechanisms involved in pattern hair loss.

KX-826 Androgen Receptor Antagonist

For this audience, Kintor’s drug candidate of choice would be KX-826, its other AR antagonist being trialed for androgenic alopecia, diabetic foot ulcers, and a form of acne. As indicated in the pipeline chart, KX-826 will be developed as a topical solution to treat hair loss. As an AR antagonist, this puts KX-826 in the same category as Breezula (CB-03-01) which we are well familiar with. This would also differentiate KX-826 from finasteride and lessen the likelihood of potential hormonal side effects from its use. The reason for this is KX-826 does not reduce the amount of DHT production in the body like finasteride does, it simply reduces the ability for DHT to attach to androgen receptors in the hair follicle, and thus, weaken them. The fact that KX-826 affects receptor sites and not hormone serum levels would also make it a potential treatment for females as well as males.

According to Kintor Pharma, KX-826 has completed a phase 1 clinical trial in the US and China and will be moving into a phase 2 trial in the US and China soon. The upcoming phase 2 trial for KX-826 will be met with excitement and many will be keen to compare its results alongside the recent showings from Breezula.

If KX-826 were to be approved in the future it brings up questions to minds of would-be users: Would a combination therapy of Breezula + KX-826 provide a synergistic blockade against DHT  receptors in hair follicles? What kind of results could be achieved by using systemic finasteride and adding topical KX-826 to a regimen?

It’s also interesting to consider that Kintor’s first AR antagonist proxalutamide is already at phase 3 in China and could become commercially available soon. This brings up the possibility of observing how it could also help in androgenic alopecia either by oral administration or creating a compounded topical formula of proxalutamide to be used on the scalp. Stay tuned for updates on proxalutamide and especially KX-826 in the near future. Thank you for linking to this article when sharing this timely news.

Excellent news find, the more companies the better for sure.

Does anyone know how clinical trials work in china?

    • Follicle Thought on August 26, 2019 at 10:51 pm

Fairly similar to how clinical trials work in US. Set number of subjects are recruited, protocol is designated, subjects receive treatment or placebo and document results and so on.

Do you think this will be better than breezula or minoxidil?

Admin shiesido. Had reply my email

    Thank you for contacting us.
We are sorry to have kept you waiting.

Please be informed that some medical University in Japan to develop hair regeneration medical treatment. Shiseido is not in a position to announce you about the treatment. I apologize for the inconvenience.
If you have further inquiry about RCH-01, would you please contact Replicel.

Thank you very much for your intere

He told me contact replicel but replicel never reply……

    • Follicle Thought on August 27, 2019 at 11:42 am

Thank you for sharing that Jwwwww. Things are now beginning to look peculiar for Shiseido. It’s a strange sign when a company begins to start advising people to contact another company about their clinical trial. But, also I’m sure they are being flooded with emails.

      • Quentin on August 27, 2019 at 8:40 pm

do you think Shiseido did not have good results?

        • T on August 29, 2019 at 9:33 pm

          I actually emailed Lee Buckler, the president and CEO of replicel a couple of months ago and he replied to me, he said;

We are doing everything we can to successfully develop our product so it can be launched as soon as possible to help people such as yourself.

          Please take care.

          Best regards,
          Lee

          • Follicle Thought on August 30, 2019 at 1:29 am

Yup, Replicel is in a waiting position until Shiseido makes the big reveal for everyone. If the product works Replicel’s stock will boom and they will be able to fund their own next trial of RCH-01 for US approval within days and prosper heavily from Shiseido royalties. That’s if.

Another option is for Replicel to get a valuation increase from their tendon repair product and skin rejuvenation product and then fund a RCH-01 trial but even they will probably wait to see if Shiseido has proved their efficacy or not. Shiseido kinda holds the cards now.

  8. faust on August 27, 2019 at 12:01 pm

NGF-574H will come to the market this Septembar:
“Hair tonic was already manufactured and stored in inventory, and we have resolved some manufacturing difficulties with shampoo and booster solution (for professional treatment at clinics and hospitals). Commercial batch of shampoo and booster solution is scheduled to be put in our inventory by sometime mid September. The market launch schedule is thus delayed by a month to late September.
We are conducting product experience program towards KOL dermatologists to give a chance to try our products before market launch. It’s been about a month and half, and some before and after photos are being collected. I know many members here are anxious to see the photos. We will post the photos here before long. I very much appreciate your patience.”

    • Clinton on August 27, 2019 at 1:29 pm

I notice they are mentioning photos, I guess we will get to see the results in September.

    • Follicle Thought on August 27, 2019 at 2:02 pm

Very interesting faust, I suppose everyone will get a better look at NGF results very soon. I wish for good things from the company. Are you considering using the product yourself?

      • faust on August 27, 2019 at 4:41 pm

Well, first I would need to see study results and photos, but I’m certainly interested. I know you have contact with this company, any involvement with this product?
Also, what happened with HairCell, no update?
        Thanks

        • Follicle Thought on August 27, 2019 at 7:17 pm

Hi faust. I received a few samples of the product but as of now I don’t have any experience with it to report on, was trying a different minoxidil blend in the meantime. It would take a few months to document results and really I don’t want to share a personal opinion on it, would rather there be a general consensus opinion.

Just heard from Haircell again yesterday and they shared a new picture, looks interesting again but will have to wait until an interview is completed. Sorry to keep delaying but it has to fit in with the hair surgeon’s schedule, they don’t get to respond emails for interviews for weeks sometimes.

          • Soull on August 27, 2019 at 9:22 pm

Hello, administrator. Are you trying a new blend of minoxidil?? What’s it all about, I’d be interested.

            thank you

            • Follicle Thought on August 28, 2019 at 12:34 am

hey soull, it was another product sample I received it’s actually not for sale just yet. I will definitely let you know if it goes on sale. thanks for your interest!

          • faust on August 28, 2019 at 2:35 am

Well, the mob turned on you last time, so your restraint is understandable. I would personally go with “fuck yall” approach, but that’s just me..
That’s great news, is the new pic comparable with the one you shared in terms of results , what is your assessment? Looking forward to updates, when it comes to investigative journalism in this niche you’re on top!

            • Follicle Thought on August 28, 2019 at 11:55 am

Haha thanks for the kind words faust, I understand your sentiments. I think soon enough the product will be out and everyone will get a chance to try it or observe someone else’s results.

The new pic is interesting, it has a different length of hair level in it but seems to show some regrowth in a an area that looked pretty bare in the before picture.

      • Welsh Dragon on August 27, 2019 at 6:03 pm

Sorry to but in on this exchange. Great to hear some news for this. Personally I would potentially use this. This treatment definitely resonates with me unlike Trinivo. The research around umbilical cord stem cells is interesting. But like with all these proposed treatments it’s the shedding.

        • Follicle Thought on August 27, 2019 at 8:40 pm

You think NGF is going to come with a shed, Welsh?

          • Welsh Dragon on August 28, 2019 at 1:56 am

In my opinion most definitely but obviously hope I’m wrong. If you look at the pictures medipost released of the woman with the parting the parting was worse at week 4 than at the start but subsequently the parting began to close up after week 4 to show improvement. It seems the natural thing for vellus hairs to fall out and grow back as terminal rather than turning current vellus into terminal without shed. I think that will be the case with any new treatment.

  9. jean on August 27, 2019 at 4:16 pm

This is great news. I look forward to the results of the phase 2 trial of KX-826.

  10. Welsh Dragon on August 27, 2019 at 5:50 pm

    Hi FT,
I note you pointing out Proxalutamide, prostate cancer even though it’s not specifically for hair loss. What are your thoughts around GT-1708 which states ‘hedgehog’ which has been linked to stimulating hair regrowth even though the research seems to point towards stimulating regrowth within scars?
    Just being curious. Cheers.

    • Follicle Thought on August 27, 2019 at 7:23 pm

Good to hear from you Welsh, I noticed the hedgehog drug as well! But thought that perhaps this was crossing the line too far since hedgehog drugs have been known to cause serious side effects such as cancer. What is interesting is that drug is designated to treat cancer and it’s listed as a hedgehog inhibitor. I was under the impression the activating the sonic hedgehog (SHH) pathway was a way to increase hair growth. It’s all very interesting perhaps someone with in depth knowledge around the SHH pathway could contribute. I believe SHH can definitely grow hair without wounding as well.

      • Welsh Dragon on August 28, 2019 at 1:45 am

Yes spot on FT. Activation is the key for hedgehog. Unfortunately for myself I didn’t look past the slash to read ‘inhibitor’ 🙁

          • Santo on August 28, 2019 at 4:05 pm

Follicle Thought, I thought the results were interesting for a month or so, the guy seems happy. But at 3 months I think it should be more clear if the products working well for him with clearer change,

      • Gibbon on August 30, 2019 at 10:06 am

The guy on the Youtube Medipost video, the timeline of 1 month ? ….Of course there are “quick responders” but….. I don’t know……?

        • MRKA on August 30, 2019 at 1:39 pm

It looks that there is slight improvement. After just one month that is quite good.
I am not sure if he used it once or twice a day.
More interesting will be the release of pics from clinics. Because they used the booster tonic as well. I am wondering how that amplifies the efficacy.
Personally, I will use a dermaroller with it. I will also continue Avodart as I got it prescribed against BHP.
          Fingers crossed.

      • Gladwin on September 2, 2019 at 2:39 pm

FT, Do you anything about formula 82F? Before and after pics looks amazing.

        • Follicle Thought on September 5, 2019 at 2:36 pm

Hi Gladwin, 82F is a good formula though it contains topical finasteride, so for those who do not wish to use finasteride. I’ve seen some very impressive results images as well but I’m cautious on a few of them. They really lean towards too good to be true, even for finasteride and minoxidil. All in all, it does seem like a useful product.

  12. Welsh Dragon on August 28, 2019 at 4:32 pm

Great find by DragC. Hopefully legit. This definitely isn’t a Korean narrating this but doesn’t necessarily make it not legit. I think these are incredible results after such a short period of time. Really surprised that there appeared to be no shedding. Just my opinion, with absolutely no medical insight, but I don’t think this will be the norm in terms of no shedding. Just my experience, I wouldn’t go out and buy some of the supplements stipulated in his video. The amount of time and money I have invested in a more holistic approached to hair loss would make your eyes water. If your hair loss improves due to the consumption of things like biotin, your hair loss is more likely a result of a nutritional deficiency rather than AGA. The product it self along with postage is going to be expensive enough. Invest in a derma roller in readiness for this.

    • Follicle Thought on August 28, 2019 at 6:30 pm

One positive response on the vid from the Welsh Dragon. Did you mean you are going to invest in a dermaroller for this?

      • Welsh Dragon on August 28, 2019 at 7:00 pm

Well I already have a couple. As per my previous post I have tried all sorts including creating my own topical concoctions. I use the derma roller to give it more effect. Needles to say my creations have no effect, at least in terms of improvement. Possibly may have slowed things down but will never know. They are cheap and if medipost substantiate this video with their own pics/results I will give this ago with a derma roller and see what happens. The reason I give this credence is because Korean have used stem cell therapies for things like knee cartilage treatments and have serious credentials in the field of umbilical cord stem cells. Trinov just didn’t sit right with me on any level. NGH may turn out as ineffective but I feel there is more basis for hope with this one. What do you think?

        • Steve on August 29, 2019 at 1:45 am

I tend to agree I thought the stem cells would produce something noticable for hair loss and maintenance.

        • Follicle Thought on August 29, 2019 at 1:49 am

Welsh, when I heard about the product I thought it was very interesting and the narrative was definitely credible. I especially was attentive to how Medipost created an environment like alopecia to help prime to stem cells to secrete the right growth factors. All in all, the results that end up in photos will be the most important. I’m hoping that it works well for people and you if you try it.

          • MRKA on September 2, 2019 at 3:29 pm

Admin, I presume that we cannot buy the booster. Its for use only in clinics.
I guess its the penetration enhancing agent that Jay Lee mentioned in May 2018 on here. It appears its classified as a drug thus cant be sold in the near future due to approval issues. In clinics it can be used ‘off label’.(Facebook info)
It will be interesting to compare official results of the first study with the second study. In the second the tonic was applied twice. In the first one just once a day. Moreover, the results from clinics could be superior due to the booster that was not used in both clinical studies.
We are discussing here outcomes of the initial study only. But we may be in for a positive suprise re. the second clinical study and clinic results.
But if so, how to obtain the booster for best results?

Oh well…in a month we may have the answer.

            • Follicle Thought on September 5, 2019 at 2:31 pm

Thanks for sharing MRKA, I was under the impression the booster was used at clinics because it requires a kind of penetration enhancing device such as mesotherapy or a ionotophoresis machine.

Good point that the booster could lead to better results. I think in time the booster will become available too internationally, but would need to be used in a clinical setting to get the most use out of it.

Admin still keep contact with Lee Buckler?

  14. Jonathan Weaver on August 29, 2019 at 11:42 am

Phase 2 probably in 2020. Come back in 2026 for market release. Nothing will come out until 2021-2022 (Samumed). So disapointing…

    • Follicle Thought on August 29, 2019 at 12:48 pm

I hear you Jonathan, one of the reason’s I always thought Hairclone was such an interesting approach. There is always a fluke chance a breakthrough cosmetic topical could come to market in the meantime, it would take something special but always a chance.

      • Welsh Dragon on August 29, 2019 at 2:09 pm

        Hi,

        Is this exchange about RCH-01?

        Cheers

        • Follicle Thought on August 29, 2019 at 5:45 pm

Welsh, yes Drago shared the link and thought that it might have alluded to a RCH-01 release.

            Cheers

  15. KD on August 30, 2019 at 2:09 am

But don’t forget Replicel is also doing it’s own trial for hair loss with dermal injector and unnanounced substance sometime next year. That’s a mystery potential now,

  16. Ry on August 30, 2019 at 3:09 am

I hear everyone’s comments. However I think we should start dropping Samumed as a potential cure. The results they have pushed forwards are 10% regrowth at best. These stats are the exact same as Monox and Fin and will not solve anything. There has already been a huge disappointment that came from Turkey in the past (which I will not name just to be fair).

  17. Greg on August 30, 2019 at 3:38 am

Admin, will you be covering Replicel’s update or is it not substantial enough?

    • Follicle Thought on August 30, 2019 at 10:06 pm

Hi Greg, yeah I don’t really see much relevance to hair growth in the latest Replicel update. However Lee Buckler did tell me directly that there is going to be a trial with the dermal injector device and an unnanounced substance sometime next year. I wonder if it’s even minoxidil, maybe their derma-injector device works as good or better than standard dermarollers.

  18. Mattt on August 30, 2019 at 4:16 am

    Admin,

What is your opinion on the Regenera Activa injections?

    • Follicle Thought on August 30, 2019 at 10:10 pm

Matt, as far as I know that procedure takes a few healthy follicles from the back of the scalp and then sort of grinds them up and re-injects the DP cells from the follicles across the scalp. It could provide some minor benefit but without culturing the cells and multiplying them I would be surprised to know how it could provide a substantial dose of cells throughout the scalp to reverse miniaturization. You know? Have you heard any different?

  19. vishal sharma on August 30, 2019 at 11:20 am

If all goes as planned, we expect to launch the product in 4Q this year or 1Q next year after registration. I do hope the new product will be a relief to the female patients suffering from lack of effective treatment that can be easily purchased in the market.
I Feel NGF574 H is primarily for female subjects.
    Admin plzz correct me

    • Follicle Thought on August 30, 2019 at 10:12 pm

I think that it is stronger suited for females based on that statement. As we know, hair thinning is less common in women and their hair tends to respond better to treatments such as PRP and some other over the counters that can’t quite treat men. Sometimes even nutritional supplementation is helpful to female hair loss.

      • Welsh Dragon on August 31, 2019 at 10:56 am

This statement is great for women and hope this is proves to be the case. However I’m not particularly disappointed by this from a man’s perspective. If you look at what data Medipost have released its not just increased hair count but hair diameter increase and increased speed of hair growth. The latter 2, if proven to work would sell more in the female cosmetic sector than a hair growth serum for men. Absolute fact. So I think Medipost are being smart from a business perspective to take this direction. Unless it is sold as a woman’s only product I personally would not rule this out for men based on these comments or the composition of the subjects for their latest trial. So good for the girls but guys don’t be to disappointed if you have this in your sights.

        Cheers

  20. Hairguy on September 1, 2019 at 1:08 pm

Hi Admin, hope all is well. That minox compound solution you are talking about…..is it HairStim? I know they are looking to release soon with different combinations like topical spirolactone, finastride, azalec acid, high % minox, topical anti inflamatories, resverital etc. Looks pretty cool. Hopefully it will work like dr. Lee old stuff. I heard his minox grew lots of hair for people. Buy fda shut him down

    • Follicle Thought on September 1, 2019 at 7:46 pm

Hi, actually not HairStim but I will look into their product line, I see some impressive before and afters on their website. It seems as though it’s only for physicians to offer their own patients. Yes, especially Yoda talks highly of the Dr. Lee product line that was eventually shut down by the FDA. Perhaps HairStim is bypassing and regulatory complications by putting this product line out through physicians only.

  21. Haiku on September 5, 2019 at 3:20 pm

This will sound crazy but can we not just use Winlevi till Breezula or the above come out?

    • Follicle Thought on September 6, 2019 at 2:25 am

Winlevi is a 1% solution of clascoterone. The 7.5% solution of Breezula used twice daily still had moderate results after 1 year of use. I honestly don’t think their would be much efficacy from Winlevi when used in the interim, probably not more then a saw palmetto solution.
