Update: Shiseido Talk

Follicle Thought has received a brief update to share regarding the progress of the highly anticipated company Shiseido.

On July 4th I sent a tweet to Replicel CEO Lee Buckler asking him when he thought we would hear an announcement from Shiseido pertaining to their trial of RCH-01. His response is shown below.

As you read, Lee is careful to note that he can only speculate a date of Sept/Oct. I’ll take it. The two companies, Replicel and Shiseido, have been engaged in a multi-million dollar licensing deal for over 5 years now.

Note that in the upcoming announcement we anticipate to hear results from the RCH-01 clinical trial Shiseido has been conducting in Japan over the past two years. It would seem likely that Shiseido would also comment on a potential market release for RCH-01 during this announcement, pending the results of the trial.

Surely this is exciting but for one thing how much is this treatment going to cost? as its not a simple topical what would be cheaper and easy to apply at home thats what most men with mpb want.

    • Follicle Thought on July 6, 2018 at 1:43 pm

      Price is not established yet

      • Trevor on July 6, 2018 at 1:47 pm

As I usually ask: can this help a N6/N7? Will this be commercially available in Japan this year?
I must have missed it, but any photos of treatment showing growth on N6/N7?
        Thanks.

        • Follicle Thought on July 6, 2018 at 9:40 pm

No wide angle photos have been revealed yet. Results from this study should hopefully answer your questions.

          • Trevor on July 7, 2018 at 12:15 am

Thanks, Joseph. This definitely is the most promising and most imminent solution company in my opinion.

  4. Yoda on July 6, 2018 at 5:51 pm

Nice work Joseph. And thank you for reiterating that “Replicel and Shiseido, have been engaged in a multi-million dollar licensing deal for over 5 years now.”
It drives me bananas when I see knuckleheads on the forums bash Replicel and celebrate Shiseido They are absolutely clueless about how a licensing deal works with technology from a small start up/early stage company that is cash hungry, in the development stage. There is no team to be on here folks, we want both to win, if not they both lose and so do we.

  5. Ry on July 7, 2018 at 7:56 am

Jumping on Yoda’s comment and Admin’s post, I’m not sure how their cooperation works.

I thought that basically Replicel and Sisheido were working hand in hand (meaning, Replicel does the research and Sisheido brings the infrastructure and will market the product).

But by reading you two, I understand that it is actually Sisheido that have licensed some of Replicel’s tech for their own R&D ? But if Replicel’s tech was not yet finished, then what did Sisheido actually license ?

If you can try and be precise in your answers, it would be great. I don’t know much about bio research and looking to learn as much as I can.

    Thx 🙂

    • Follicle Thought on July 7, 2018 at 11:14 am

Shiseido licensed finished tech from Replicel, called RCH-01.

  6. lee Buckler on July 7, 2018 at 11:07 am

I am thinking about Taking finasteride or to Wait until rch-01 comes out. If Shiseido give US The clinical data in Sept 2018 what do You think when will rch-01 be commercialized? Will it be an Limited Launch or will it be possible for all People to get Theben Injektions immediately After launch? What do You think?

          Hi,

Do you know what the update will be and how, where it will be presented. I heard murmurs there is some form of presentation taking place tomorrow, could be nonsense though.

          Thanks

  7. taep on July 8, 2018 at 8:45 am

They’re in a partnership and why don’t they know the date of the announcement? I don’t understand.

    • Follicle Thought on July 8, 2018 at 8:49 pm

Must be that Shiseido has not set a firm date yet.

  8. Taep on July 9, 2018 at 2:28 am

Don’t you usually take these dates into account when you make a contract? Do you think RCH 01 will bring positive results?

  9. Michael Lazzari on July 9, 2018 at 2:52 am

I really needed to hear this today. So thanks

  10. Alex on July 9, 2018 at 8:26 am

But when will they announce the results of medical trial?

  11. br1 on July 9, 2018 at 3:29 pm

The announced “date” is “end of 2018”.

That’s why he does not now the ‘exact’ date.

  12. LeeBuckler on July 12, 2018 at 2:45 am

I am very scared and angry 🙁 I heard of a conditional Launch in Japan for regenerative medicine. That would be even if the Treatment will be launched that there will be only a number of thousand People will be able to get the procedure.

ADMIN: Do you can tell us something about conditional Launch in Japan With stem cell products please? The Chance to get in the registry will be very low as an non japanese citizen I assume 🙁

    • Follicle Thought on July 12, 2018 at 12:00 pm

      Where did you hear this?

      • taep on July 13, 2018 at 10:41 pm

how do you think about this?

    • taep on July 12, 2018 at 10:24 pm

i also wonder. where did you hear this?

  13. Welsh Dragon on July 13, 2018 at 3:30 am

This supposed restriction on patients led me to an interesting piece on Replicel’s web site regarding the regenerative medicine laws in Japan. It say’s: ‘A 20-person trial that shows safety and is predictive of efficacy is sufficient to get conditional approval for seven years, without needing placebo trials. Efficacy will be determined by the market’. In the case of Tsuji who is conducting a pre-clinical trial with mice and then a small human trial, if the human trial is successful it would make sense to limit the number of paying patients because they couldn’t possibly derive enough data in that short period to conclusively prove its efficiency. So they use the ‘market’ rather than the labs to fully prove the technology. In the case of RCH-01 this has already gone through a 36 month trial (I think) in which Replicel say the safety of the treatment is with out question with glimmers of efficiency and obviously Japan are concluding a further 2 year trial. If the data from the Japan trial is promising/good I doubt there would be any restriction on the number of patients because the efficiency would have been proven. That’s just my opinion, reading between the lines without being able to find any information on this supposed 1000 patient restriction.

  14. LeeBuckler on July 14, 2018 at 5:25 am

A guy on HairLossTalk wrote this: „Under current Japanese law, cell treatments may receive conditional release after the completion of phase I or II clinical trials.
Conditional includes limited number of clients treated (that would be in the thousands).
Phase III clinical trial will most probably take up to three years. Therefore, a proper release will most probably crop up in 2022-2023.
Additionally, it is not certain yet whether Shiseido will opt for RCH-01 commercialization or not.
That’s the reality check for now.“

Hope so much he is wrong!!!!

  15. Paul on July 14, 2018 at 3:04 pm

    No hope.. I really thought that 2018 is a cure-year.. but now I don’t think so…

  16. Sean on July 15, 2018 at 5:32 pm

Thanks for reaching out to them! Since you run an established hair loss website, companies are probably way more likely to respond to you rather than unsolicited questions from the general public. Have you considered reaching out to FIDIA about a potential release for their infamous “Brotzu Lotion”? Whether that be twitter, phone, or email? They might even see it as worthwhile since it could lead to good publicity if they respond to you due to how many readers you have!

    • Follicle Thought on July 15, 2018 at 9:11 pm

I appreciate your kind words Sean. Fidia was more willing to respond to me before they started to receive 50-100s of emails from the public every week. I think perhaps now they will only give an update if they are very close to releasing the product.

  17. Mr Cool on July 15, 2018 at 6:02 pm

Waiting for such a product is just wasting of TIME move on and do HairTransplant that only cure your baldness & Madness.

  18. taep on July 16, 2018 at 1:13 am

Is it true that Japan can only treat 1,000 Japanese people if it is released conditionally in 2018?

  20. LeeBuckler on July 18, 2018 at 10:53 am

    @ADMIN:
You wrote on your landingpage about RCH-01 „Replicel is also planning on launching its own RCH-01 phase 2 trial, estimated to take place in 2018-2019, for the regulatory pathway in North America.“
RepliCel announced to do The trials in Germany and Austria. Did You mean, that The trials will be Done in North America or did You mean that The trials would be done in Germany/Austria for The regulatory pathway in North America?
If Shiseido brings us positive Data of Phase II when we can Expect trials of RepliCel or do You think Replicel will take The Money an der Leave The market :(?

    • Follicle Thought on July 18, 2018 at 11:18 am

Trials are done in Germany for NA regulatory pathway. If Shiseido brings positive results, then most likely, Replicel will raise a lot of money and fund their own trials.

  21. LeeBuckler on July 18, 2018 at 4:13 pm

@ADMIN: thanks for your answer. If Shiseido give US The results of The trials they will say also which method of injections is The best. So what do You mean Why Replicel should Test another Method?! Isnt it possible that Replicel only Do The recommended dose and amount of injections with which Shiseido made The best results ?

  22. Roxas on July 20, 2018 at 10:39 am

Isn’t it just game over if Shiseido announce positive results? Whether it’s limited at first or not, a “cure” has been found. Sure, there will be other companies that will try restore the hair differently or find a way from stopping it to happen in the first place but this method allows us to have unlimited, thick hair wherever we want on our scalp? The fact that the cure can be as close as 2-3 months away and will lift the burdenfrom your chest and out-triumph having to wait an extra year or so. Knowing the battle is won would change everything. Enjoy your limited hairloss whilst it last with a smile 🙂

  23. LeeBuckler on July 31, 2018 at 2:11 am

ADMIN, I am scared I saw in a presentation of RepliCel in 2015 (https://replicel.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/RepliCel-Presentation-March-5-15.pdf) page 19 that there is a “Conditional
term-limited authorization” of cell-based Treatments 🙁 Can you please explain us how much participants would be in such an “Conditional authorization”? The final Marketing authorization would be only after 7 years 🙁 Please ADMIN, you are the expert, give us your view…

  24. Rachel on October 25, 2018 at 4:57 am

    Hi admin,
Will any of these treatments work for scarring alopecia? This has been heartbreaking for me to say the least, especially as a woman.

    • Follicle Thought on October 25, 2018 at 4:23 pm

Hi Rachel, I’m not very familiar with scarring alopecia and so cannot give a definite answer. I do hope that you will find relief as soon possible through one of the therapies being developed.
